The Usual Work Here
Mettawa doesn't look like the rest of our coverage area on paper, and it doesn't look like it on a service call either. We check spring rating against panel weight before touching anything, not after. The cold winters this area sits in also mean the nylon rollers and opener gears on a 30-plus-year-old system have usually been through more freeze-thaw cycling than a door of the same age somewhere milder, which speeds up wear on plastic drive components even when the steel parts still look fine. If your opener is original to a house built in the late 80s, the gear kit inside it is very likely the failure point before the motor itself gives out, and that's a part worth replacing on its own rather than the whole unit.
